Following Jesus
...helping individuals to investigate the Christian faith, to study the Bible for themselves, to live out their faith and to learn to help others do the same
Southampton
Pieter and Suzanne lead one of the two student ministries in Southampton....
We are passionate in engaging with non-believing students. The majority of students on campus are un-churched and have little or no interest in spiritual questions. They learn lives' lessons from soaps and movies and that satisfaction is only to be found in success, gadgets, sports etc.
Yet we have a conviction that only Jesus is the true source for joy, freedom and satisfaction. Very often it seems that a good friendship means that there is no room for sharing our faith and we feel that a whole part of us remains unknown to our friends. Together, we want to learn how we can build good friendships with people, which still has room for sharing our faith and hope. This means that we need to build deep roots in our identity in God and our walk with Jesus allowing Him to transform us, so that our joy, freedom and satisfaction does indeed come from Him.
We meet up regularly for in depth Bible studies. We meet on campus in a cafe where we run sessions on life issues, such as Confidence, Trust, Success and World peace, which draw from literature, film, TV, philosophy and the Bible.
We want people to be able to defend their faith when it is challenged (1 Pet 3:15), and so we give training in apologetics. This is increasingly relevant, as more books are published that attack Christian beliefs.
