Big Weekend 2011
In Rainbows @ The Big Weekend...
“Challenging and encouraging – the best combination”
“thought-provoking, life-developing and great fun too”
150 students and graduates gathered at Cliff College in Derbyshire for The Big Weekend from the 11th to 13th of February. Together with Mark Greene from London Institute of Contemporary Christianity we explored the topic of ‘Whole Life Discipleship' and the notion that everything we do matters intensely to God, because quite simply, God is intensely interested in us. Mark led us through three excellent plenary sessions promoting a very challenging but life affirming message that our faith must touch our uni courses, our work, the music we listen to, the films we watch and even the current student predilection for Facebook...
Alongside the plenary sessions very practical training was given in three distinct tracks. These helped students to go deeper into discovering how to grow practically in discipleship (Ignite); how to help others grow as disciples (Equip) and how to be effective as disciples in contemporary culture (Engage).
There was time for walking in the beautifulcountryside, checking out Chatsworth House, Six nations Rugby and for a great game of football on a muddy pitch on Saturday! In the middle of the afternoon the clearest, most amazing Rainbow appeared over Cliff College which reminded us of God's promises and resonated with the theme of the weekend- God is with you wherever you are, whatever you are doing and the whole of creation belongs to him.
